6 Tips to Organize Your Small Bedroom

Having a small bedroom can get frustrating. You want to be able to make your space comfortable, but you also need somewhere to store your personal belongings. While you can often store some of your things in the common areas of your home, there are going to be things you want to keep safe and secure in your bedroom. Organizing a small bedroom can be challenging, but it is very possible.

Here are some ways to do so.

Under the Bed Storage

When you’re considering how to store things, don’t forget to look under the bed. This space is often under-utilized and can actually be accessed pretty easily. By using risers on your bed, you can even increase that storage space without inconveniencing yourself. Once your bed is in place, consider how much space you have. Then buy some small shelves or storage boxes that will fit underneath. You can store anything from blankets to unseasonable clothes in there while keeping the more accessible storage space for the things you’ll need every day.

Declutter Regularly

It is very easy for clutter to build up in a small bedroom. And no matter how organized you are, it can still get out of control. Get in the habit of decluttering regularly. Go through your dresser, cabinets, and surfaces to find things you don’t need anymore. This could be trash that’s built up throughout the week or it could be clothes and belongings that don’t fit your current life. Set a schedule to do this. You might do a small declutter each week for things like receipts or papers. Then do a seasonal purge that considers the rest of your bedroom. If you get in the habit of decluttering, you’ll have fewer things taking up space in your room.

Use Bins to Organize Drawers

While drawers are already a good step toward organizing your small bedroom, you can take it a step further. Small storage bins are a great way to keep the drawers themselves organized. Put the bins inside the drawers, then use them to organize your clothes or other belongings. You can sort them easily this way, making it easier to find what you need and keeping things neat for much longer.

Add Wall Storage

If you’re running out of floor storage, it’s time to go vertical. Adding wall storage can make an enormous difference in your bedroom’s organization. While shelves are a great option, they aren’t the only ones. Consider wall pockets or hooks as well. These can add more visual appeal to your walls while also giving you space to keep your clothing or books. While it is possible for your walls to get cluttered as well, adding more storage options will make it easier for you to keep your room organized.

Designate “Sections” of Your Room

You likely use your bedroom for a number of different things. You’re sleeping, working, and relaxing in one space and if you treat it like a single space, it can get messy. Counteract this by designating different sections of your room for certain activities. For instance, set up a work corner. This is where your desk might be, along with everything you need to do your work. Then make the space in and around your bed exclusive for sleeping. Anything you need at bedtime goes there. This is still possible in a small room if you are creative about it. But it will not only make your room look and feel nicer, but it will also make it easier to stay organized.

Buy a Clothes Hamper

Dirty clothes can make a room feel messy and disorganized faster than anything else. Even if you’re not in the habit of letting your clothes build up in piles for days, they might end up temporarily on the floor before you bring them to the laundry. Invest in a clothes hamper for your bedroom. This will allow you to save on trips to the laundry while keeping your clothes off the floor and out of sight. Your room will look more organized and you won’t have to deal with multiple piles of dirty clothes as you’re trying to do other things.

Your bedroom should be your sanctuary, no matter how big or small it is. However, the smaller it is, the more easily it gets cluttered. Take some time to get organized. Some careful planning and some extra storage space can make a big difference. By applying these tips to your own space, you can get much more organized and enjoy your bedroom even more.
